Welcome to Kokom Scrunchies 💝
Kokom Scrunchies is a family-run Indigenous business founded by Mya Beaudry, an Algonquin youth from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. Mya started Kokom Scrunchies at just 9 years old, inspired by the strong women and role models in her life. In the Algonquin language, “Kokom” means grandmother—a tribute to the matriarchs who guide and inspire our community.
Since 2019, every Kokom Scrunchie has been made in Canada. Each scrunchie from the core collection is named in honour of an Indigenous role model, and new designs continue to celebrate inspiring individuals throughout the year.
Kokom Scrunchies now offers even more products such as; lanyards, shoelaces, ribbon skirt kits and our new colouring storybook.
We’re also excited to share our story 🫶 Book Mya or Marcie for workshops, speaking events, or hands-on learning experiences.
Join us in celebrating Indigenous culture, creativity, and community. What began as a simple idea has grown into a movement to inspire all ages young and old.
